Intensive Eight Week Private Drawing Workshop

New!  Six Week Group Lessons With Model

Private Workshop
:
Have you always wanted to learn to draw?  If a
large class at an adult school or junior college is not your cup of tea, or a small group of  experienced artists is too intimidating, this workshop may be right for you.  Suzanne Commins offers an  eight  week intensive private drawing workshop in a comfortable setting in the Oakland hills.  The class is designed for beginners.  In this workshop, you will learn various drawing  techniques with an emphasis on portraiture and the figure.   The goal of this course is to develop your skills to a level where you will feel confident participating in a traditional life drawing group or to be able to create expressive drawings on your own.

The workshop will cover the art of contour, gesture, volume, weight, negative space, value, composition and  proportional relationships.

At the end of the workshop, you will have the option of joining a small group of students for a three-hour life drawing class with a professional model.   The fee for the model is nominal.

Group Lessons:  This class is can be taken as a follow up to the private workshop, or taken separately.    It is less structured than the private course and we will work from a model* for three hours one day per week.   Each  class will be divided between figure drawing and portraiture and students will receive as much or as little attention as they feel necessary.   A short critique will follow each class.   Class is limited to 5-6 students.

*We will alternate each week between male and female models and work from both the nude figure and the clothed or draped figure.
